PERKESO (Social Security Organisation), more commonly known as SOCSO, provides various insurance schemes for Malaysian workers, from work-related accidents to unemployment. Many workers know they contribute every month, but are unsure how much benefit they would actually receive if they need to claim. Hartanah Bumiputera provides the SOCSO & EIS Benefit Calculator which covers four different types of benefits.

1. Invalidity Pension: Based on Contributions

If you suffer from a permanent disability (not due to a work-related accident), the PERKESO Disability Scheme pays a monthly pension based on your contribution period:

  • Base rate: 50% of the estimated average monthly wage (AAMW), subject to the minimum qualifying period
  • +1% additional for EVERY 12 months of full contributions PAID BEYOND the minimum qualifying period of 24 months
  • Maximum rate: 65%
  • Minimum floor: RM550/month, regardless of how low the calculated rate is

This means the longer your contribution period, the higher the pension rate you are eligible to receive, which is why this benefit has a "contribution-based" effect.

2. Temporary Disablement Benefit: Based on the Effect of the Accident

If you suffer a work-related accident and are directed to take sick leave (MC) for at least 4 days (including the day of the accident), the Work Injury Scheme pays 80% of the estimated average daily wage, between RM30 to RM158.67 per day, for the duration of the approved MC period.

3. Permanent Disablement Benefit: Also Based on the Effect of the Accident

If an accident results in permanent disability, 90% of the average daily wage (between RM30-RM178.50/day) is adjusted according to the percentage of disability (disability assessment %) determined by the medical authorities of PERKESO. Assessments ≤20% are typically paid as a lump sum once; >20% is paid monthly for life (with the option of partial commutation), the actual lump sum amount uses PERKESO's own actuarial tables which are not publicly issued, so our calculator provides the RATE only, not the actual lump sum amount.

4. Employment Assistance Allowance (EIS)

Separate from the three benefits above, the Employment Insurance Scheme (EIS) pays an allowance if you lose your job, 80% of the first month's salary, decreasing progressively (50%, 40%, 40%, 30%, 30%) until the sixth month, with a one-time 25% bonus if you return to work before the allowance period ends.
